Football Sason

It is officially Football season again!!! The LONG offseason is officially over and football season has begun, so once again I have reason to breathe meaningful breath.  The Hall of Fame class of 2008 was enshrined (however much of a travesty it was that DT was not a member RIP)  and the Hall of Fame Game was played with the Washington Redskins defeating the Indianapolis Colts 30-16, in meaningless preseason action.  Preseason is boring yes, it is nearly worthless, but it does provide a chance for young guys to make a lineup and join in the greatness that is the NFL.  Especially as a Chiefs fan this preseason is exciting because out of the 80 players we took to camp 35 were rookies, and only 13 guys have more than 5 years NFL experience.  Our preseason kicks off Thursday (technically tonight) at 7:00 pm in Chicago against the Bears.  Next week we open the season @ home against the Arizona Cardinals.  As a new season ticket holder, I am extremely excited for the upcomming year.  Go Chiefs!!!!

In other NFL news BRETT FAVRE IS A NEW YORK JET!!!! This is insane.  He has the heartfelt, tearfilled retirement back in March.  Over the last several weeks there has been an ongoing soap opera between Favre and Green Bay and he officially came out of retirement 3 days ago.  He went to Packers camp 2 days ago, yesterday he was sent home, and today he is officially traded to the New York Jets for a conditional 4th round pick that could go as high as a 1st round pick if he leads the Jets to the Super Bowl (not gonna happen).  It is going to be very strange seeing #4 in another uniform besides Green Bay, and kind of depressing.  It will remind me of the awkwardness it caused seeing Emmitt Smith in a Cardinals jersey, Rice in a Raiders/Seahawks jersey, and even Montana is a Chiefs jersey (although that looked REALLY good).  It just doesn't fit, this is going to be very awkward this season, and any Favre fan will agree with me on that point I do believe.

Finally to the meat of the matter the NFL landscape looks interesting this year, the Patriots are no longer able to cheat so they may not be quite as amazing as they have been in recent years, however, they do still have Tom Brady and Randy Moss and Wes Welker etc. etc. etc.   So they still have to be the favorite to be the top team in the AFC.  So my AFC prediction in light of the Brett Favre Trade are as follows : East- Patriots 14-2, Jets 10-6, Bills 9-7, Dolphins 3-13; South- Colts 11-5, Jags 11-5, Titans 8-8, Texans 6-10; North- Browns 11-5, Steelers 10-6, Bengals 7-9, Ravens 5-11; West- Chargers 12-4, Chiefs 8-8, Donkeys 8-8, Raiders 0-16 (not serious just hopeful, serious would be 4-12).  Patriots and Chargers with byes in the playoffs Browns as the 3 seed Colts as the 4...Jags as the 5 and Jets as the 6 seed, Chargers to represent the AFC in the Super Bowl.  As for the NFC in light of the Favre trade the Packers take a big step backward and will no longer be a top team over there but my NFC prediction goes as follows:  East- Cowboys 13-3, Eagles 11-5, Giants 9-7, Redskins 8-8; North- Vikings 12-4, Packers 9-7, Bears 7-9, Lions 5-11; South- Saints 10-6, Bucs 8-8, Panthers 6-10, Falcons 2-14; West- Seahawks 11-5, Cardinals 10-6, 49ers 6-10, Rams 4-12.  Cowboys and Vikings with byes Seahawks as the 3 seed and Saints in @ 4...Eagles at 5 and Cardinals at 6, eventually giving way to the Cowboys representing the NFC in the Super Bowl against the Chargers and losing.  San Diego to win the Super Bowl and get a ring for LT and give credit to Marty Schottenheimer for building that team into what it is.  The only reason I don't pick the Cowboys to win is because I don't have a lot of faith in them to win a playoff game period considering they haven't done so since 1996 when ironically enough they were defeated by Brett Favre and Green Bay in the NFC Championship.

Once again it is Football season again let all rejoice and be glad.

Emily and her family are big Packer's fans (they're basically all from Wisconson, even though Emily grew up in Minnesota). I haven't heard much talk about how they feel on all of this.

I'll probably stick to my normal routine of not watching football. Probably have too many papers to grade.

Anyone notice that the Chiefs won a preseason game? Not that it means anything... it's just unexpected.

Of course I noticed. And it did mean something. It was the first win for the franchise since Oct. 21st 2007 and it reintroduces a winning culture to the organization. The Chiefs will do MUCH better this season than last, they will continue to improve each year and we will become the new dynasty of the next decade. In Herm I Trust.
