Motoko Kusanagi Witty Jones (May 2007 - September 2008)

Motoko

Motoko Kusanagi Witty Jones, aged 1, of Lawrence, KS was put to rest after a brief battle with uterine infection Monday September 22nd.

She leaves behind her adopted sister and general partner-in-crime Riza Hawkeye Witty Jones, twice-removed adopted sister Maes Hughes Witty Jones, mother Cayla Witty, and father Nolan T. Jones.
She and her sister were adopted very young in uncertain fashion from PetCo in Lawrence.  Their mother-to-be had a strong resistance towards rodents, which she described as "skittering" creatures, not to be trusted.  She was persuaded by the docile nature of the pair to attempt adoption, taking first residence at the famed "House of Orr".  Upon her entrance to the House of Orr, Motoko began her campaign in raising awareness of rat intelligence in those around her.  Rats, with a problem-solving intellect that has been theorized as rivaling that of a two-year-old human being, are attracted to a social lifestyle-- which Motoko fully embodied.  Near perfect in her self-potty-training, fully aware of and responsive to her name, and never even an accidental biter, the young rat very quickly came to understand her role in the extended Orr family.
Motoko was a rare animal.  She was far more interested in human interaction than the basic "treats" or "food" that most animals crave above all else.  While on an extended car trip in her youth, when she was young enough that the bars of her home were little more than a recommendation, she became frightened by the ride, and left the enclosure-- not to run rampant around the car, but to get to the front seat where she could cuddle with her parents during the trip.  Her most rare trait was exhibited in her enthusiastic licking.  It is a minority of rats that choose to regularly groom their closest humans.  For Motoko, there were no distinctions-- everyone was a friend whose fingers were for grabbing with her tiny paws and showing affection with her lick.  She began showing traits of severe illness less than a week prior to her being put to rest.  Although she was struck by the debilitating ailment, she did not take out her condition on those around her, instead using her diminishing strength to continue showing affection until her end.
The family advises any making contributions in her name to look into rat adoption.  Motoko was laid to rest in an unspecified location local to the Orrfenage yesterday afternoon.  She is irreplaceable and will be missed.
